El Volcan: A totally organic estate

El Volcan Estate

Deep in the green and mountainous heart of Guatemala lies Finca El Volcan and a corner of heaven on earth.

Here you will find not only the true peace after which the Alta Verapaz region is named, but also a genuine commitment to ethical coffee and cardamom farming.

Renowned as the birthplace of the international Utz Certified organisation, Finca El Volcan set standards for social and environmental care in coffee farming that are now established worldwide. Today the farm extends over 350 hectares of coffee and cardamom plantations, alongside reforestation and natural cloud forest.

For the Q'eqchi' Maya people, El Volcan represents a valuable source of employment, education, training and health services, in addition to local community development projects. New initiatives, such as furniture production from pruned coffee wood, have the potential to create more work and revenue sources.

As a fully organic farm, the emphasis remains always on sustainability.
